We recently took a camping trip to our favorite spot in the world...Grand Teton National Park. I thought I'd share a few highlights, and pictures. I have been made aware that it is no longer possible to enlarge photos that I upload by clicking on them for some reason. I apologize, it must be my new computer. I'll upload them in Large format this time, hopefully that will be a little better. We left for our trip on Thursday. We wanted to leave at 10. We finally left at 12. We crossed the Idaho border, and shortly thereafter blew a tire on our tent trailer. Luckily we were about a mile from a rest stop. (At this point I need to share a bit of traveling advice: rest stops are nice to stop at. Don't think of the rest stops of 15 years ago, today's rest stops are the best places to stop while traveling.) SO, Brandon dropped me, the kids and our lunch off at the rest stop while he took care of the tire. In about an hour he returned for us, and we were back on the road. I didn't take any pictures that day, but took plenty on the other days. I am posting so many that I decided to let the pictures do most of the talking. Here's what we did for the rest of the trip:skipped stones in String Lake.
Odie held his shorts up so they wouldn't get wet.
Brandon lost the lens to his favorite sunglasses.
I think String Lake was Lucy's favorite part of the trip.
Odie got a dirty face.
Brandon made the old standby, dutch oven Lasagna. He is a dutch oven master.
enjoyed the view from atop Signal Mountain.
Saw TONS of wild flowers. This silver Lupine was everywhere. It was my favorite.
We had never been to Mormon Row before. Angie b, I was wishing you were here, SO many beautiful old barns, fences, houses, etc. You HAVE to go there.
saw buffalo. I get nervous about being this close to the wildlife.
saw stink pots. Odie got out of the van at one and said "Mom, I 'tinky"...he thought he had a poopy diaper!
waited for Old Faithful.
saw some beautiful pools.
ate dutch oven Mississippi Mud Cake for my birthday. (I told you Brandon was a master)
made "kick-the-can" ice cream (also for my b-day)
Phoebe made Coconutty Curry Chicken with couscous and veggies foil dinners. Yum!
A view of Mt. Owen from Jenny Lake.
took a boat ride across Jenny Lake.
One night in the trailer I had this conversation with Odie (who didn't want to go to sleep):
Odie: Mom, where are we?
Me: in the trailer
Odie: No, we're on our trip. It's a hiking one.
me: ok
Odie: Mom, where are we?
me: on our trip
Odie: oh we are?
me: yep
Odie: Mom, where are we?
me: at the grand tetons
Odie: Oh, the grand tetons? I knowed that word!
me: yep
Odie: Dad, did you get in the "hower"?
Brandon: (he was half asleep) mmmhmmm.
Odie: Oh, did you 'wallow a bug like mom did?
Brandon: nope
Odie: Mom, did you have a bug in you froat?
me: ya.
Odie: ooooo, yucky, huh mom. Mom, where are we?
me: Go to sleep, Odie.
He was so cute. It was crazy to think that Lucy was his age when we went there last time, and that he will be so much bigger when we go again.
I promise I didn't upload every single picture I took on the trip. I was cracking myself up as I kept adding more and more to the post. I thought about breaking it up into a few different posts, but I knew I probably wouldn't ever get to doing more than just one. So enjoy...

Becky- Your pic blew up for me...looks like fun! We went there 2 years ago and it was so much fun! You're kids are so cute, I still can't get over how much your oldest looks like you! I get you confused sometimes until I look close!
I LOVE all the photos. You can never have too many photos.
What a precious conversation with odie...I miss those.
I am flabbergasted-yes-flabbergasted at your gourmet camping meals. You guys eat good food. I need all those recipes.
PS: Thank you for posting.
Brandon is the man! And that hat is so dorky it is cool! It all looks like such a good time. I cracked up about Odie thinking he created that smell - HA!
What a fun trip! I want to know Brandon's dutch oven secrets! And Phoebe's foil dinner for that matter. You are truly the master of braids..this is the second year I've done Grace's and after seeing your cute girls..mine are umm..not so great!!!
You guys were living it up camping! I've never seen such extravagant dutch oven and campfire meals. And the kick the can ice cream... yummy!! Now that's the way to camp!
Paige, Brandon has to wear a hat to protect his ginormous bald melon from the sun... :) I should have taken pictures of our other dutch oven meals...I"m telling you, Brandon does not cook AT ALL at home, (except mac n cheese) but on our camping trips he is the cook.
my kids are dying to go camping. We need mountains!
It looks like you had fun! I need your recipes for dutch oven. We only do hot dogs over the fire. boring!
Your kids are darling.
What a fun trip. You could do another post and put more pictures and we would all love it! You always go and have so much fun!
I loved all of your pictures! Maybe it's better that Brandon lost his lense, those sunglasses don't look like all that. And I'm not one bit suprised at all the good food, I wouldn't expect anything less from you guys.
Bring on more pics! What fun memories...that's what life's about. Brandon, you're "the man".
Looks like a great trip!
Did you know buffalo can run up to 35 mph?
Here I am up at 2:30 am getting ready to leave for our trip and ttrying to post fom our past few weeks (I am so behind). Anyway, I was posting about cute things Zac has been doing and for some reason this post just made me all emotional. These days are going by TOO fast and I get sad thinking how quickly they are growing.
We were just there at Yellowstone and it was my favorite trip yet! There is something about being in God's Country away from everything and everyone with the ones you love most that is just so great!
Your conversation with ODie is priceless...awesome that you are writing it down to remember.
Your pictures are awesome....The last one of your girls is so cute!
What an awesomwe little family you have Becky, you and Brandon are making the best memories for your kids.
Last but not least ...ummm yeah recipes PLEASE. Did you say Couscous for camping? What a great idea, that would be quick and so easy!
One more thing...Old Faithful? Wow, did it nad seeing you sitting there is remindning me of the awesome raspberry/strawberry cones they had while we waited for the hour and a half after just running up to miss it :)
Sorry for the long comment but this post was just what I needed before we left!
prern
Okay, I forgot one more thing! I noticed that you are like me when you go camping and always bring the bandana! It's a must for me, Love them!
Just had to add that!!!
oh ang, I love ya girl! That bandanna has been a camping staple for me forEVER. Couldn't camp without it...
and Will is STILL talking about his raspberry ice cream cone a week later. ( probably his favorite part of the trip...)
You are so sweet. I could just ditto that comment back to you. I think you are an awesome mom, too. btw, I have been reading that wonderful book you gave me and love it! SO much, and the pictures in it are beautiful, too, esp. of little Zac and you guys. Thanks so much...Love you, Ang!
What a fun time. I always wish we were a better camping family. It always seems like so much work. But look at the wonderful memories you guys have, that's awesome. It sounds like Brandon needs to give a class on dutch oven cooking with all of the recipes and demonstration and of course taste testing. :) I hope you guys had great birthdays.
I hope your kids figure out how lucky they are for the great life they lead! That trip looked awesome and tasty too!
So - are you done blogging for good? It's been 3 months you know!
